USA
wins Pool C with best points-ratio
TIJUANA, Mexico, July 7, 2010 – USA defeated Mexico in
consecutive frames (25-19, 25-16, 25-23) to win Pool C and a
berth in the semifinals of the NORCECA Women’s Junior
Continental Championship. The Americans recorded a points-ratio
of 2.296 (225-98) the highest among the pool’s winners.
Jane Croson was the best scorer of the winners with 12 points
followed by Kelly Reeves and Carly Wopat who registered 11
tallies apiece. Mexicans Andrea Rangel and Samantha Bricio
recorded 16 and 10 respectively for the defeated side.
“Our reception was good and it allowed us to establish our quick
attacks,” USA Coach Robert Browning said. “That was the key for
us. We had good reception even though Mexico executed good
serves. We have a lot of respect for a team like Mexico.”
Wopat added: “Both teams played well and we are excited about
the victory. It was a lot of fun.”
Mexican Coach Alfredo Bernal commented: “USA executed strong
serves and we had a lot of difficulties in our reception which
affected our concentration. We played better in the third set
but failed with some serves in key moments.”
